Media reports today suggest that Newcastle Jets are set to sign former England and Liverpool orward Emile Heskey.
Heskey, who left Premier League club Aston Villa at the end of last season, has been looking for a new club and Sydney's Daily Telegraph reports that the 34-year-old has already held discussions with Jets CEO Robbie Middleby and Troy Palmer, CEO of the Hunter Sports Group.
Never a prolific striker, Heskey would instead add some presence and experience to an otherwise youthful Jets side, taking over from injury prone veteran Michael Bridges upfront.
The club have refused to comment so far, but it is reported that should Heskey pass a medical, he will be free to join the Jets in time to face Alessandro Del Piero in the round 2 clash with Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium.
