Central defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley has been named the Newcastle Jets player of the season.

Central defender Nikolai Topor-Stanley has been named the Newcastle Jets player of the season.

The 25-year-old was rewarded after an outstanding season at the back for the Jets, playing 28 matches and enjoying a stint as captain late in the 2010-11 campaign.

Topor-Stanley, who recently committed his future to the club by signing a two-year deal, joined the Jets from Perth Glory before the start of the 2009-10 season.

Twice capped by the Socceroos during Pim Verbeek's reign, Topor-Stanley grew up in Canberra and made his A-League debut at Sydney FC in August 2006.

He has now played 106 matches and received the top gong at the club's presentation evening on Monday night.

Hayley Crawford picked up the Jets women's player of the year title after appearing in all 10 games for her hometown club this season.

The 26-year-old striker is captain of Newcastle's Westfield W-League team and has represented Australia at under-19 level.

Sam Gallaway was the other major award winner, taking home the Jets National Youth League player of the season.

The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough season, playing five Hyundai A-League games after making his top-flight debut against Gold Coast in January.
