Striker's stunning A-League debut for Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar recruit Jamie Maclaren paid tribute to his new teammates after netting a brace in his side’s shock 3-1 win over Western Sydney Wanderers at Pirtek Stadium on Thursday night.

Maclaren scored twice on his A-League debut for Roar in a man-of-the match performance to stun the Wanderers as John Aloisi’s side kicked off the new campaign in emphatic style.

“Yeah look it was a great debut. To score two goals is obviously a plus but to walk away with the three points is the main thing,” Maclaren told Fox Sports.

“They were outstanding [Broich and Corona]. I knew coming to Brisbane, they were a fantastic footballing side and they would create chances for me and they did tonight.

“…We’ve worked a lot on scoring goals, getting wide and putting it into the box. It paid off tonight and we scored three goals.”

Aloisi was pleased with the Olyroo’s performance but was quick to dispel comparisons to former Roar superstar Besart Berisha.

“I said during the week that don’t expect a Besart Berisha because he’s not that. He’s a different type of player,” Aloisi said.

“He’s a player that’s intelligent, he makes good runs. He’s always playing on the shoulders of the centre backs.

Daniel Bowles shows great bravery in a challenge with Andrew Redmayne.

“When you’ve got Thomas Broich, Corona and Dimitri Petratos that can play those balls he’s going to hurt teams.”

Roar’s Spanish recruit Corona was another who impressed on debut with the midfielder creating two goals in a composed performance in the centre of the park.

Aloisi admitted the former La Liga midfielder was still adjusting to life in the Hyundai A-League and expects the 34-year-old to develop into a key weapon for his side.

“He’ll get stronger. This is his first game with the side and he’s only been training for just over a week and he’s getting to know the players,” Aloisi said.

“He’s a quality player, we all know that."
