Signing news: Moss playing 'some of his best football' after penning Jets extension

Ernie Merrick believes Glen Moss is playing some of the best football of his career, as the Hyundai A-League statesman re-signed with Newcastle Jets today.

The 36-year-old gloveman penned a deal which keeps him in the Hunter Valley until the end of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

Moss joined the Novocastrians at the beginning of the 2017/18 campaign and has since flourished despite initially struggling to nail down the number one jersey.

And Jets boss Merrick, mentor of the Kiwi international at Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne Victory, says the evergreen shot stopper continues to get better with age.

"Glen is a very experienced and dependable player, I’ve coached him at three different clubs now and he has a real calming presence on the group,” Merrick told Newcastle's official website.

“His game just continues to develop, he’s a real leader amongst the boys and the fact that he’s also doing his coaching badges shows me that he’s still keen to learn and improve.

“It’s good to have him locked in for another season, he’s playing some of his best football at age 36 and he’s been very impressive this season.”

“I’ve been enjoying my football here in Newcastle, Ernie has assembled a good group of players and we’re always confident of doing well,” Moss told the club's official website.

“I feel I have a responsibility to guide the younger players and I’m really enjoying my role as a senior leader in the squad.

“The club culture that Lawrie [McKinna], Joel [Griffiths], and Ernie [Merrick] have created is something I really believe in and hopefully I can help it grow for a few seasons to come.”
