Signing news: Adelaide United secure Norwegian striker Opseth

Adelaide United have completed the signing of Norwegian striker Kristian Opseth, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

The 189cm target man joins the Reds for the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 Season having spent last season at Turkish Super Lid outfit Erzurum BB.

A consistent scorer throughout his career, Opseth will be the man charged with leading the attack for the Reds, an area which has been problematic in recent seasons.

“I am very excited to be joining Adelaide United and working with Gertjan and his coaching staff,” Opseth said on Adelaide’s official website.

“The A-League is a strong competition and is definitely improving every season, so I’m looking forward to testing myself in the league.

“From my discussions with Gertjan, the attacking football we’ll be playing this season will suit me well and the squad we have seems to be very strong.

“This is a new experience for me, but one I think will be very enjoyable for everyone.”

Still just 29, Opseth is coach Gertjan Verbeek’s third key signing of the off-season so far.

He joins Australian youngster Riley McGree and the versatile Michaël Maria.
Opseth has scored 98 goals in 181 matches in his senior career at clubs like Sogndal, Førde and Bodø/Glimt, as well as his most recent stint in Turkey.

“Not only is [Opseth] an immensely talented player, he is also a great character and will fit right into the group,” Adelaide United Director of Football Bruce Djite said.

Kristian Fardal Opseth
Can Kristian Opseth be the answer to the Reds' striking dilemma?

“Kristian is a goalscoring forward who is coming from playing at a very high level, the Turkish Superlig. Kristian's attributes perfectly align with the attacking brand of football Gertjan is working to implement in the squad.

“Not only is Kristian a quality target man and a strong aerial threat, he is a great finisher.”

Opseth will wear the No. 11 shirt for the Reds and could feature in their FFA Cup 2019 Round of 32 clash against Melbourne Knights next week.
