Melbourne Victory forward Marco Rojas has been named as the third nominee for the 2012/13 NAB Young Footballer of the Year Award.

Melbourne Victory forward Marco Rojas has been named as the third nominee for the 2012/13 NAB Young Footballer of the Year Award.

Rojas was voted the most outstanding U21 player for the month of December following standout performances in four matches.

The New Zealand international was a standout for Melbourne Victory in the past four rounds helping the team surge up the Hyundai A-League table into third.

Rojas has scored 10 goals in the 2012/13 season so far, including four stunning strikes throughout the month of December.

His extraordinary brace against the Newcastle Jets helped secure the points for his side in front of a huge crowd at AAMI Park, while his opening goal in the Melbourne derby allowed Melbourne Victory to take all three points against their cross-town rivals.

“I-ve certainly felt like I have been playing with a lot more confidence this season and most importantly, we are getting our share of results on the pitch as well,” Rojas said.

“The credit also needs to go to the boys around me because without the excellent service I-ve received this season I don-t think I-d have been able to perform anywhere near as well as I have.”

Tim Clarke, Head of NAB Enterprise Sponsorship & Events said NAB is delighted to see the NAB Young Footballer of the Year Award continue to unearth future stars of the game.

“We congratulate Marco on his nomination and look forward with great anticipation to watching his development in the years to come,” Mr Clarke said.

“As a supporter of the NAB Young Footballer of the Year Award, NAB is proud to play an important role in identifying and rewarding tomorrow-s stars of football.” Rojas is the third nominee for the annual award with three future nominees to be in the running for the grand prize.

The overall winner will receive a $10,000 personal investment portfolio, a NAB Private Client Manager to assist with a range of banking and financial services, and the NAB Young Footballer of the Year Award.

To aid the development of future football stars NAB have generously donated a $3,000 equipment pack that will go to Rojas- chosen junior football club, Ngaruawahia United, in Hamilton, New Zealand.
