Brisbane Roar have agreed to terminate the contract of Nick Fitzgerald, paving the way for the midfielder to join Central Coast.

Media reports suggested Roar coach Mike Mulvey had already told the 20-year-old, who had already signed a two-year deal with the Mariners for next season, that he would no longer be considered for A-League selection, prompting Mairners boss Graham Arnold to call for an early release.

The Sydney-born midfielder made 24 Hyundai A-League appearances for Brisbane, scoring one goal.

Fitzgerald thanked the club for giving him an opportunity at Hyundai A-League level.

“I-d really like to thank all the players, Mike Mulvey and (Roar general manager) Sean Dobson,” Fitzgerald said.

“I-ve had a good two years here in Brisbane and really enjoyed my time at the club.”

Central Coast say Fitzgerald will take part in his first training session back with the Mariners on Thursday.
