Adelaide United have announced the signing of Spanish forward Miguel Palanca for the remainder of the season.
Palanca began his football career with his local club, Espanyol, where he developed through their youth academy before making his professional debut for the club during the 2006/07 La Liga season.
Following his time at Espanyol, Palanca signed for European giants, Real Madrid, making three appearances in their first team, whilst regularly playing for their second team in the Spanish Segunda División. Palanca’s debut for Real Madrid came in a 2-0 El Clásico loss against Barcelona at Camp Nou.
In the 2009/10 season, Palanca went on loan to Castellón where he featured 36 times and scored three goals, before joining current La Liga club, Elche. At Elche, Palanca made a total of 72 appearances, scoring five times whilst they were in Segunda División.
Palanca joins the Reds after spending the last 18-months playing for Numancia in Segunda División, earning himself 42 appearances and scoring five goals for the club.
Miguel Palanca is a player that Head Coach Josep Gombau is excited by the level of experience and versatility he will bring to the club. He is also a player very familiar to 2013/14 Club Champion Isaias having played youth football together at Espanyol.
Miguel Palanca adds to the Reds already growing Spanish influence. Gombau has stressed the importance of signing a player who is already familiar and experienced with the style, “We are trying to play this particular style and to bring a player like Palanca will only help us improve as a team.”
Miguel Palanca will arrive in Adelaide later this week and will be joining the squad immediately to prepare for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season.
