Analysis: Adelaide United coach Aurelio Vidmar has issued an apology to his fans and defender Mark Rudan has described the Reds' situation as 'disgraceful' in the local media. It's amazing what unfolds when a club moves into unfamiliar territory.

The Reds slumped to the bottom of the Hyundai A-League ladder after losing to North Queensland 2-1 last week and are obviously hurting.

They haven't won since Round 11, are wobbly in front of goal, some of last year's best players aren't firing while niggly injuries are proving disruptive to others.

Vidmar looks set to make a couple of changes with Paul Reid set to return to the side after regaining match fitness in the Hyundai A-League while Daniel Mullen, who's been out of favour this season, also gets a look in.

The line-up might be tinkered with too with Cassio letting slip he might be back in the midfield instead of left back at a media conference this week.

Cassio said this Friday's game was a chance to start again and turn things around but playing the Jets, who the Reds have beaten in seven out of 14 matches, looks a more daunting challenge than it did a month ago.

Newcastle has won two of its past three matches with its drought-breaking win against Sydney FC away from home lifting the spirits of all involved.

The Reds have labelled Michael Bridges the danger man after he scored a goal in both halves of last weekend's contest while skipper Matthew Thompson showed his mind was still on the job by finding the back of the net too.

The Jets have also bolstered their side for this clash with Adam D'Apuzzo and Fabio Vignaroli included in the extended squad.

Newcastle is full of confidence and will be keen to make this a six-point game but Adelaide's desperation levels will be at an all time high. It's a recipe for a real slug-fest which may just fall in the Reds' favour.
