But Sydney FC were far from disgraced, pushing the EPL giants all the way in a keenly-fought contest on Saturday night.

And it left a good impression of the Sky Blues and the Hyundai A-League on Pochettino.

“We saw some Sydney games [before we came out] and we knew it was a very good team,” the Spurs boss said.

“They always try to play along the grass and have a very good culture. It’s a very good team with good players.

“The starting XI I saw some very good players with good potential and the second half there was a lot of young players too.

“I spoke with the manager of Sydney FC and I congratulated him on a very good job by the club and him because the team always tried to play in a good way and has the same philosophy as us.”

Spurs’ tour brings down the curtain on a fairly successful season for the club, which finished fifth in the Premier League.

Kane is undoubtedly their new star, with his goal against Sydney taking his tally to 34 for the campaign across all competitions.

“It’s been a fantastic season for him. It was important to keep the momentum and scoring a lot of goals now going into the Euro’s [European under-21 Championships with England] to help them get the trophy,” Pochettino said.

“For us, Harry Kane was one of the best players with [Eden] Hazard in the Premier League.

“I hope the same things happen in the Euro’s, he scores a lot of goals and help the team became champions.”

Pochettino felt his side should have scored more goals but hopes the huge crowd was impressed by the show his players put on.

“We’re very happy to be here, in front of 70,000 people it was a chance to say thank you to our fans in Australia,” he said.

“It was fantastic, a very warm welcome and I hope we can repeat this trip in the future because it was wonderful to be here.”
