The Newcastle Jets have confirmed Englishman Wayne Brown will depart the club, with both parties agreeing to terminate the final year of his contract with the Hyundai A-League club.
Brown has spent the last two seasons in the Hunter, making 42 appearances for the club.
He became just the seventh player to score on his full debut, with his goal in the FFA Cup defeat to Melbourne Victory in 2016.
Speaking after it was confirmed Brown would leave the club, Jets boss Ernie Merrick praised the hard-working midfielder for his service to football in the area.
“Wayne is an excellent professional and we wish him every success in the future,” Merrick said.
“He’s a competitive character, extremely hard-working and been a pleasure to work with.”
Before the club's FFA Cup Round of 32 clash against Gold Coast Knights next month, the Jets will head to Spain for a training camp, as well as matches against La Liga opposition.
