Wellington Phoenix have confirmed "early" discussions with Melbourne Victory star Archie Thompson but the NZ outfit say there have been no developments since then.
A club spokesperson confirmed to www.a-league.com.au that the Kiwi-born Thompson and Phoenix have had some early discussions about a potential move across the Tasman to Westpac Stadium.
But speculation of a deal for the 36-year-old former Socceroo striker is premature at this stage, say the club.
Any such transfer may depend on the future of Hyundai A-League Player of the Year, striker Nathan Burns, and Joel Griffiths' return to fitness.
If either or both go, Phoenix will be short of attacking stocks ahead of next season.
Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick has a close connection with Thompson, who scored 11 goals this season to end fifth on the scorers' charts.
Merrick coached Thompson at Victory during the club's first five years in the Hyundai A-League.
Merrick is in Europe at the moment. Meanwhile, Thompson's future with Victory remains unclear.
