The Newcastle Jets have confirmed the signing of striker Sasho Petrovski from local rivals Central Coast Mariners.

The 33-year-old will join the Hunter based club for two seasons and will be able to make his debut for his new club when the Jets get their AFC Champions League campaign underway against Beijing Guoan on March 10.

Petrovski has proven himself to be one of Australian football's most prolific strikers in domestic football.

The expert poacher has played for both of the Jets' intrastate rivals in the Hyundai A-League, Sydney FC and Central Coast Mariners, scoring 28 goals in his 85 games with the two clubs.

Prior to the A-League, Petrovski was one of the most potent strikers in the National Soccer League (NSL) competition, playing for the likes of Wollongong Wolves and Parramatta Power, and also enjoyed a stint abroad with Danish outfit Viborg FF.

"We're very happy to have Sasho on board, particularly with our venture into the Asian Champions League on the horizon," Jets' CEO John Tsatsimas said on Tuesday.

"He brings a tremendous amount of experience to our squad, especially on the domestic front which will certainly be of great value to us moving forward."

"Having been such a dominant figure in Australian domestic football for some time, he will be someone that our younger players can learn and draw knowledge from."

"Goalscorers of Sasho's calibre, and with his excellent record, are quite difficult to come by in Australia and his presence in the final third is an attribute which makes him an ideal recruit for our club."

Yet before Petrovski can pull on a Jets jersey, he'll be fighting it out for the Mariners in their finals series which kicks off against Queensland Roar on Friday night.
