Dimitri Petratos and Sydney FC have agreed to part ways after the midfielder asked for and received his release.

It is understood the 19-year-old had grown frustrated at his lack of opportunities at the club and decided to pursue other avenues.

He will now be plying his trade in Malaysia, although at this stage, Sydney FC could not confirm with which club.

The move comes on the same day as the Sky Blues announced a restructuring of their football department, with Football Director Gary Cole finding himself on the outer.

"Sydney FC has decided to make some structural changes to the football department and the position of Football Director has been made redundant," club chief executive officer Tony Pignata said via statement.

"On behalf of Sydney FC, I'd like to thank Gary Cole for the work he did in his time at the club and wish him the best of luck in the future."
