Outcome of Independent Match Review Panel - Round 22

The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) have handed down their verdict after Melbourne Victory defender Tim Hoogland was sent off in Saturday night's Big Blue.

The MRP - consisting of Simon Micallef (Chair), Alan Contini and Adam D’Apuzzo – convened on Monday, 9 March 2020 to consider an incident involving Hoogland  in or around the 85th minute of Melbourne Victory’s Hyundai A-League Round 22 Match against Sydney FC on Saturday, 7 March 2020.

In accordance with the Hyundai A-League Disciplinary Regulations, the MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Hoogland was issued with a direct Red Card by the Referee.

The MRP determined that Hoogland had committed the offence of “Denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity, as prescribed in Law 12 of the Laws of the Game.”

The MRP confirmed that Hoogland will serve a suspension of one (1) match, being the minimum sanction for the offence.
