Newcastle to host Hyundai A-League Grand Final live site
Newcastle Jets fans unable to attend the Hyundai A-League 2018 Grand Final can still soak up the excitement at a family-friendly live site on Saturday night.
The first-ever decider to be held in the Hunter Valley has attracted huge interest, with more than 30,000 supporters set to pack out McDonald Jones Stadium.
In response to the buzz, Newcastle City Council has teamed up with Revitalising Newcastle and Newcastle Grammar School to screen the match at King Edward Park.
Food stalls and merchandising stands will be in the park and shuttle buses will run between the live site, Queens Wharf and Bar Beach carpark.
Newcastle Transport bus services will also operate between Customs House, Westfield Kotara and Wallsend from 5.00pm until late Saturday night.
Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes called on Novocastrians to enjoy the festivities.
"Saturday night is going to be an amazing night. I urge people to come into the City wearing their best red and blue," the Lord Mayor said.
"The City's annual Carols by Candlelight draws around 15,000 people to King Edward Park's natural amphitheatre, so it will be a great, safe place for families to enjoy this historic sporting event."
The Jets' opponents Melbourne Victory will be holding their own free live site at Etihad Stadium for fans unable to make the trip.
Kick-off in the Grand Final is at 7:50pm (AEST).
