Muscat: Victory’s confidence rising after superb win over Jets

Melbourne Victory boss Kevin Muscat can sense his side is building confidence after a superb 2-1 win over high-flying Newcastle Jets on Friday night.

Victory made it three straight Hyundai A-League wins thanks to goals from Kosta Barbarouses and Besart Berisha to sit in third spot after the start of Round 13.

"You can sense we're playing with some confidence," a delighted Muscat said.
"We've seen in the last few weeks how we've started games. Whether that’s home or away we've started the games really, really well.

"We're still working to get more consistent and better. It could have been one or two more and I don't think anyone could have had any complaints."

"In that first half I thought again we showed some real quality, asking questions and putting pressure on a team that's in second," Muscat added said.

"The players came in and it's human nature to be disappointed.

"Immediately in the second half we really got on top of them and ventured forward and created chance after chance."

While thing are looking good for Victory after a slow start to the campaign, they do face a defensive crisis ahead of their next match against Central Coast Mariners on January 6.

Central defensive duo Rhys Williams (suspension) and Thomas Deng (Australian U23 duty) are likely to miss the match.

Muscat confirmed he’s looking to bolster his squad in January, with former Perth Glory defender Dino Djulbic a target.

"I've been speaking to him [Djulbic] for quite a few weeks now. He'll start training with us and we'll look to conclude a deal when the window opens," the Victory boss confirmed.

"We'll look to bring bodies in if we can, some reinforcements. But apart from that, we'll pick ourselves up and enjoy that tonight.”
