Mooy: Caltex Socceroos to turn on the style in Melbourne

Ahead of Tuesday night's Greece game, midfield maestro Aaron Mooy says he’s loving the set-up in the Caltex Socceroos, believing it’s part of the reason behind the team's stunning form.

“It’s always an honour to play for Australia but the way we play, the style…I just really enjoy that style of football,” Mooy told FFA TV.

“That’s the way I want to play and that’s the way the boss wants us to play so I love it.

“From the beginning, when I first came in, we’ve improved a lot,” the 25-year-old added.

“Our style’s coming out a lot more and we’re showing teams we can play good football and we’re also getting the results, that’s also a very important part.”

Mooy has been one of the Socceroos most consistent players over the last 12 months and is also coming off a dominant Hyundai A-League campaign with Melbourne City.

Caltex Socceroos Aaron Mooy and Brad Smith celebrate a goal scored against Jordan in Sydney.

But there’s one more job he wants to complete before having a well-deserved break and that’s toppling Greece in the second game of the Dodoni Series at Etihad Stadium tonight (Tues).

“It [the season] started in Melbourne and now it’s going to finish in Melbourne. I love the town, the city Melbourne, me and my family really enjoy it here,” said Mooy, who is said to be fielding plenty of interest from overseas clubs.

“It’s been a good year. I’ve really enjoyed the whole time, I’ve enjoyed my football with Melbourne [City] and the Socceroos also,” he added.

“I’m happy to be here and excited for the game.”

The Socceroos took the honours in the first match of the series, with Mathew Leckie’s injury-time goal handing them a 1-0 win in Sydney on Saturday night.
