Millwall’s Aussie teen in awe as his hero Cahill arrives at The Den
Former Newcastle Jets striker Kristian Brymora is in awe that his club Millwall have signed Caltex Socceroos legend and fellow Aussie Tim Cahill.
The big transfer news overnight has been the signing of Cahill by Millwall boss Neil Harris.
#TheReturn has been trending today as Lions fans reacted positively to a club great returning to where it all began.
The move means there are now three Aussies at the London outfit, with Cahill joining fellow Socceroo James Meredith along with the 19-year-old rising star of the Lions U23s, Brymora.
For 19-year-old Brymora - who left Newcastle in Australia to trial in England in June last year, eventually inking a deal with Millwall and signing a six-month extension over Christmas - it’s a dream come true to have one of Australia's greatest sportsmen at his club.
“I watched Tim play football throughout my childhood, and just to be here at a club where he started, just makes me appreciate and respect him even more,” Brymora told www.a-league.com.au
“I still remember waking up in the middle of the night for the 2006 World Cup just to watch him play. Tim is somebody that I aspire to be like in my years to come.
“To have Tim at Millwall is firstly amazing to hear because it’s where it all began for him, but for myself, it’s a great opportunity to learn from somebody that’s been in the game for such a long time and who continues to make huge contributions to the sport.
“To be able to work with Tim as a teammate now is something I am never going to forget. And the exciting thing is that there will be three Aussies at Millwall now.”
Millwall’s first team are at home to high-flying Derby tonight (Jan 30) and are away to Reading on Saturday (Feb 3).
The London club are currently 15th on the 24-team Championship ladder.
