The stats behind Mike Mulvey's return to the Hyundai A-League
Mike Mulvey is set to take charge of a Hyundai A-League team for the third time when he returns to helm Central Coast Mariners for the 2018/19 Season.
The former Coach of the Year brings with him 60 games of experience in the competition, including seven at Gold Coast United and a further 53 with Brisbane Roar between 2012 and 2014.
His successful stay in Brisbane saw Mulvey guide the club to back-to-back Finals Series appearances as they as they did the double in 2013/14.
That side won the Premiers Plate by an impressive 10 points, which at the time was the second-largest margin in Hyundai A-League history.
Mulvey snared his second piece of silverware by then leading Roar to a 2-1 extra-time triumph over Western Sydney Wanderers in extra-time of the 2014 Grand Final.
The Manchester-born manager parted ways with the champions after six games of their title defence, going on to work at various clubs in Malaysia and Thailand.
Across his 60 matches in Australia's top-flight, Mulvey has accrued 28 wins, 10 draws and 22 defeats.
One stat which may concern Central Coast supporters is the 55-year-old's record against F3 Derby rivals Newcastle Jets.
He's only beaten them once in seven attempts, although at 4-0 it's his joint-largest – and most recent – victory in the Hyundai A-League.
And while he will only be watching from the stands on Saturday night, Mulvey may also be plotting to shake off another hoodoo come Round 1 next term.
He was dealt a 1-0 loss in his debut match with both Gold Coast and Brisbane.
