McCormack: City rediscovering their mojo
Two-goal hero Ross McCormack believes Melbourne City are getting back to the type of form that saw them dominate the Hyundai A-League early in the campaign.
City have consolidated themselves in third spot following a 2-0 win over Perth Glory on Tuesday night thanks to McCormack’s brace.
It’s now back-to-back wins for Warren Joyce’s men, the first time they’ve managed it since winning the opening four games of the season in October.
“They [Sydney FC and Newcastle in the top two] were starting to pull away and we’ve been in a patchy bit of form,” McCormack told Fox Sports.
“Even tonight we weren’t at our best.
“But we showed in a way that we’re getting back to what we were like at the start of the season, grinding results out and getting three points.”
McCormack has been a key in City’s recent improvement, backing up his double in the win over Wellington on Saturday with another couple against Glory.
His first was a sublime free-kick inside 10 minutes, before converting a penalty before the break after the impressive Daniel Arzani was brought down in the box.
McCormack now has 12 goals from 14 appearances this season to sit second in the golden boot standing behind Sydney FC’s Bobo (15).
“I started slowly, I didn’t score the first two,” he said.
“It took me a while to maybe get over the jetlag and settle in.
“But I’m happy with the outcome so far but we’ve got a lot of games left and we’ve got a lot of things to play for.”
City are on the road again this weekend, heading to Gosford to face Central Coast Mariners on Sunday afternoon.
