Matchday Saturday preview: A-League triple-header, June 4

Three A-League fixtures on Saturday, June 5 are set to determine the final finishing places of the sides in the top six heading into the 2020/21 Finals Series campaign.

Brisbane Roar are the current occupants of third position ahead of their clash with the Sky Blues, which gets the Saturday action underway at Moreton Daily Stadium.

The Sky Blues are on a four-game winning streak heading into Matchweek 24, scoring eight goals and conceding just one in the process. But the Roar will be eager to end that run with a win on home soil to confirm a third-place finish for the Queensland side.

Key defender Macaulay Gillesphey returns from injury for Brisbane for the third game between these two teams for the season, after the Sky Blues and Roar played out a pair of draws in Matchweeks 9 and 11.

An intriguing test awaits for a Sydney side without a key trio for the rest of the campaign from this game onwards. Ryan McGowan, Andrew Redmayne and Rhyan Grant all departed for Socceroos duty after their team's 4-1 win over Adelaide United last time out, leaving Steve Corica with some decisions to make as he attempts to mitigate the loss to his defensive line.

Central Coast Mariners and Western United face off at Central Coast Stadium in the second fixture on Matchday Saturday. Should the Roar fail to beat the Sky Blues, Central Coast will receive the chance to claim third spot with a three-point display against the Green and Black.

Alen Stajcic's side put on a disappointing show in an F3 Derby defeat to Newcastle Jets in Matchweek 23, meaning a big response is needed in the final game of the season. Daniel De Silva returns to the fold to give the Mariners a boost against a United side with seven straight losses to their name slumping to the end of the season.

Newcastle Jets welcome Perth Glory to McDonald Jones Stadium in Saturday's final fixture, after Perth's hopes of a Finals Series berth washed away in a 2-1 to the Roar in Matchweek 23.

The Jets, meanwhile, notched a fantastic win over the Mariners to jump to within one point of Melbourne Victory, who face Premiers Melbourne City in their last game of the campaign. Beating Perth will help Craig Deans' side jump off the foot of the A-League table and above Victory as the Novocastrian side look to avoid the wooden spoon.
