Matchday Saturday Preview: A-League, April 10

Sink your teeth into an A-League triple-header on Saturday, April 10, as six teams battle it out in three fixtures capable of altering the standings at either end of the table.

Newcastle Jets will host Melbourne Victory in the first of Saturday's games, held at McDonald Jones Stadium (kick-off 3.05pm AEST). It's 12th against 11th in the Hunter, as Victory aim to draw level with the Jets on points with the club's first win on the road for the 2020/21 season.

Victory have  just two wins on the board from 14 games to start the campaign. The Jets, meanwhile, have three - the last of which coming against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park in Matchweek 9. Craig Deans' side have since gone on a six-game losing streak. Melbourne are on a winless run of equal length, with a 1-1 draw against Central Coast Mariners in Matchweek 14 adding to their five losses chalked up along the six-game streak.

The last time these two sides met, an Angus Thurgate strike on 72 minutes proved the difference in Newcastle's 1-0 win on the road. If the Jets can inflict a similar result on Victory in Matchweek 16 the Novocastrians will jump to 14 points - six ahead of Victory.

At the conclusion of Saturday's first contest, the entertainment will continue at Leichhardt Oval as Melbourne City travel to face Sydney FC (kick-off 5.05pm AEST).

The reigning Champions host one of this season's favourites in a repeat of the 2019/20 A-League Grand Final fixture between City and the Sky Blues.

Patrick Kisnorbo's City side beat Sydney 3-2 at AAMI Park in Matchweek 9 - the first of two fixtures to be played out in 2020/21 between last season's Grand Final contenders. The Victorian outfit can move ahead of Central Coast Mariners into first place on the A-League table should they take three more points from the Sky Blues on Saturday evening.

LAST TIME OUT: Melbourne City 3-2 Sydney FC

Adelaide United host Western Sydney Wanderers at Coopers Stadium in the final game of Matchday Saturday  (7.10pm AEST).

The Reds and Wanderers face off for the second time this season after Adelaide emerged 3-2 winners from the first meeting in Matchweek 10.

Carl Veart's Reds saw their six-game winning run come to a grinding halt in Gosford last time out, when the Mariners scored two quick-fire goals in the second half to vanquish Adelaide's 1-0 lead and secure all three points. Western Sydney's 2-2 draw with the same side in Matchweek 15 sent the Red and Black within one point of Adelaide (25) ahead of the Coopers Stadium clash.

Carl Robinson will be aiming to pull his Wanderers team out of a three-game winless slump and overhaul the Reds on the table, venturing ever closer to league's front-running outfits.
