Match preview: Adelaide United v Brisbane Roar

Fireworks can be expected from the very first minute as Adelaide United host Brisbane Roar in the Hyundai A-League on Friday evening.

United boss Marco Kurz was particularly disappointed about his side’s start to their Round 5 clash at Wellington, even though the Reds came from behind to win 3-1.

Of particular concern to Kurz was United’s passive start to the match and for that reason, they should be on the front foot from kick-off in this clash.

Kurz’s words will strike a familiar tune with Roar fans, with coach John Aloisi making repeated mentions of his side’s slow starts in the current campaign.

The concession of early goals was becoming a frustrating trend for Brisbane supporters but it was one they stopped in Round 5, as Adam Taggart struck twice in a 2-0 win over Melbourne City.

Taggart has five goals in as many matches this season and has now struck 10 in his last eight Hyundai A-League fixtures.

Roar have won their past two against United and have won seven of their last 11 matches in South Australia.

Key Opta stats

  • Brisbane Roar picked up a 2-1 win in their last game against the Reds in Adelaide, snapping a four-game winless run in South Australia (D1, L3).
  • None of Adelaide United’s five matches so far this season have been won  by the home team on the day (D2, L3); with each of their last three fixtures won by the away team on the day.
  • Brisbane Roar have conceded just one second-half goal this Hyundai A-League campaign, fewer than any other team in the competition.
