Mariners suffer another injury blow

Key midfielder Andre Gumprecht is the latest in a string of worrying injuries for the Central Coast Mariners.

Key midfielder Andre Gumprecht is the latest in a string of worrying injuries for the Central Coast Mariners.

Gumprecht looks set to be sidelined for up to three months after suffering a knee injury early in the second half when the Mariners defeated Queensland 2-1 in the Pre-Season Cup on Sunday.

The veteran was injured after a strong challenge from Roar skipper Craig Moore, who was duly sent off for the tackle.

Gumprecht played out the game but knew he was in trouble after the match.

"There was no real pain but I couldn't move sideways," said Gumprecht, who only just signed a new Mariners deal.

"It's very disappointing."

Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna said injuries are a major concern with the club's opening A-League match against Newcastle on Friday week.

Also batting injuries are Nigel Boogaard, Dean Heffernan and Socceroo Mile Jedinak, while captain Alex Wilkinson has been battling knee injuries for the past month.

Jedinak is suffering a minor leg injury and did not play in the Pre-Season Cup. McKinna is confident the tough-tackling midfielder will be fit to take on the Jets in the grand final replay at EnergyAustralia Stadium.
