The Hyundai A-League 2014/15 Season match between the Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United on Saturday 7 February 2015 has been moved from Brookvale Oval to Central Coast Stadium in Gosford, Football Federation Australia (FFA) confirmed today.
The decision to relocate the Round 16 encounter to Central Coast Stadium comes after an inspection of Brookvale Oval deemed the surface unsuitable to host a Hyundai A-League fixture.
Central Coast Mariners and Brookvale Oval staff both agreed that the surface is not currently up to Hyundai A-League standard and would need to have extensive work undertaken in order for it to be up to a required standard in time.
Head of Hyundai A-League, Damien de Bohun stated that moving the match was the right decision based on a number of factors, none more so than taking into account player safety.
“FFA’s priority and commitment is always to provide the best possible playing surfaces for Hyundai A-League matches, for the purpose of giving teams every opportunity to produce an excellent football product, and also to ultimately ensure a safe environment for the players,” de Bohun said.
“An inspection of Brookvale Oval showed the surface is not at an acceptable standard for a Hyundai A-League match, and would take a mountain of work to have it ready by match day so we had no hesitation in shifting the game.
“The surface at Central Coast Stadium has been in excellent condition again this season and moving this match to Gosford will ensure the best possible spectacle and outcome for the players, the thousands of Hyundai A-League fans across the country who will also tune into this match on FOX SPORTS, and the Central Coast Mariners fans who now have another opportunity to support their team at their home ground in Gosford.”
