Newcastle have continued to strengthen their squad for the next A-League season by signing talented Perth Glory youngster Adam Taggart.

Taggart, who has represented Australia at both under-20 and under-23 level, has inked a two-year deal with the Jets.

The 18-year-old, who has worked previously with Jets boss Gary van Egmond while at the Australian Institute of Sport, said he was happy to be reuniting with his former mentor.

"It's a very exciting time to be part of the Jets who are making big plans for the future which I think is obvious through their recruitment and retention of several exciting players," Taggart, who made his A-League debut in 2010, said on Friday.

"I would also like to thank Perth Glory for the opportunity they gave me with my first professional contract, but I think the time is now right to take the next step in my career and challenge myself in a different environment."

"I am looking forward to playing as much first team football as possible next season and making a real impact on the league."

Jets coach van Egmond added: "It is a good credit to him, particularly at his young age, to have been involved in the Olympic qualifiers and it just shows how highly regarded he is."

"He will fit into the culture we are trying to build at the Jets and we look forward to working with him when he arrives here."
