Danish striker Jesper Hakansson has landed a two-year contract with the Newcastle Jets.

Danish striker Jesper Hakansson has landed a two-year contract with the Newcastle Jets.

The 26-year-old has been trialling with the club for a week and impressed coach Gary van Egmond sufficiently to be awarded won of the final places on the club's roster.

Hakansson has played more than 70 games in the Dutch Eredivisie for the likes of SC Heerenveen, RBC Roosendaal and ADO Den Haag.

He has also trialled with Manchester United and is comfortable playing at the point of attack or out wide.

Newcastle CEO John Tsatsimas said he was delighted with the Jets' latest acquisition.

"It is certainly wonderful to have a player with Jesper's background and record joining our club," Tsatsimas said.

"We believe that Jesper will fit in nicely with the squad that we have here, and will easily find his feet in Australia as he settles in for the next two seasons in the Hyundai A-League."

Hakansson is currently in Port Macquarie with his new team-mates preparing for the new campaign.
