Newcastle Jets striker Joel Griffiths has signed a new deal that will see him remain at the club until the conclusion of the 2011/2012 Hyundai A-League season.

Griffiths' three-year deal will see him become the Jets' marquee player from next season and should ensure the 29-year-old remains in Newcastle for the remainder of his career.

Jets CEO John Tsatsimas was excited that the reigning Johnny Warren Medalist had decided to renew his contract with the club.

"It's certainly a monumental moment for the club and for Joel," Tsatsimas said.

"We believe that Joel is a superb ambassador for the sport and for this great city. He plays with pride, he plays with passion, and he wears his heart on his sleeve. That's been the main reason that he has been so popular with our fans, and we are proud to have him as part of the Newcastle Jets well into the future."

Tsatsimas believes the future is bright for the Jets, particularly after coach Gary van Egmond agreed to a new deal just last week.

"Hopefully this is a moment which becomes a platform which will ensure the long-term stability and success of our club," Tsatsimas said.

"We have already achieved significant milestones in our history; making the Hyundai A-League Finals in each of the first three seasons, and of course becoming Champions last season. We believe that this decision will see us continue on that path of success as we develop."
