Melbourne Victory has added another player to its squad on the eve of the Hyundai A-League 2015/16 season, signing teenage forward George Howard on a two-year contract.
The English-born forward spent time as an academy player at Sheffield United before moving to Australia with his family when his father accepted a job offer in Melbourne several years ago.
Howard joined then State League 1 side Eastern Lions upon his arrival in Australia, making his senior debut at the age of 16, and was later signed by Box Hill United before moving to Victory.
He made his first and only Hyundai A-League appearance in Round 23 of the 2014/15 season, coming off the bench in Victory's 2-1 win over Central Coast Mariners at AAMI Park.
"George is a talented young forward with plenty of pace who has been rewarded for his strong performances in our youth team," Victory head coach Kevin Muscat said.
"He has a fantastic attitude, he continues to improve and we believe he has a bright future at this football club as his career develops even further."
Victory will open its new Hyundai A-League campaign against Adelaide United at Adelaide Oval on Friday.
