In Round 6 we saw more Bruno brilliance and wins for Victory, Phoenix and Sydney FC. Catch up with your Monday morning fix of all the weekend’s Hyundai A-League action, reaction and analysis.
Melbourne City 2-1 Newcastle Jets
On a Thursday night at AAMI Park, another Bruno Fornaroli masterclass inspired City to a fourth win of the campaign. The Uruguayan scored a brace – making it 20 goals in 18 appearances at AAMI – before holding off a brave Jets side that ended with 10-men after another injury to a central defender.
Adelaide United 1-1 Brisbane Roar
Brett Holman’s first goal in Australian national league football in 14 years looked to have won it for the visitors. But Sergi Guardiola responded with his third goal in as many games to snap Adelaide’s four-game losing streak in a Harvey Norman Friday night cracker.
Central Coast Mariners 0-2 Wellington Phoenix
Without five players on international duty, Phoenix was supposed to struggle but showed too much class and composure against the Mariners in Canberra. Roy Krishna scored again (that’s four in three for the Fijian) before putting the second on a plate for Hamish Watson.
Melbourne Victory 3-0 Western Sydney Wanderers
Another enthralling edition of this growing rivalry. Wanderers dominated possession – and had a clear penalty denied – but Victory scored all the goals in a thriller in front of more than 21,000 fans at Etihad.
Sydney FC 4-1 Perth Glory
It was the Milos Ninkovic show for the Sky Blues as the Serbian superstar scored two and set up another to make it a perfect six for Graham Arnold’s side in the 2016/17 Season.
