Hyundai A-League pre-season results update

Overnight, Sydney FC opened their pre-season calendar of games with a 12-0 win over Earlwood Wanderers on Wednesday night.

Striker Filip Holosko with four first half goals inside 20 minutes set the tone on a rainy night at Leichhardt Oval. 

New signing from Italy Australian Josh Brillante got some minutes as did Caltex Socceroo Alex Wilkinson in what was the Sky Blues' first friendly since starting pre-season three weeks ago. 

Recently re-signed Matt Simon led the line. Milos Ninkovic, Aaron Calver, George Blackwood and new signing Michael Zullo were all unavailable for the match. 

Melbourne City FC kicked of their pre-season in style on Wednesday night, defeating PS4 NPL Victoria outfit Port Melbourne 5-0.

A double to star striker Bruno Fornaroli headlined the act with Paulo Retre, Jacob Melling and NPL player Austin Wong rounding out the result in the second half at a cold JL Murphy Reserve.

The first half’s eleven saw two new faces in Manny Muscat and Luke Brattan start for City as Bruce Kamau completed most of the warm up but elected not to play with tightness, replaced by Luke Gallo.

Perth Glory also began its pre-season tour of the Philippines with a 0-0 draw against Global FC at Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila on Wednesday.

Earlier this week Adelaide United played their first pre-seaon game and defeated Northern Demons  5-0. Goals to Marc Marino, Bruce Djite, Alex Mullen, Marc Ochieg and Tarek Elrich in Port Pirie. 

The A-League champions are also reportedly set to have a pre-season camp in Malaysia, according to local reports. 

And on Wednesday night, Newcastle Jets' planned friendly with a local NPL select side was called off due to a waterlogged surface at Magic Park in Broadmeadow.

Club CEO Lawrie McKinna told the Newcastle Herald he was keen to have the game played later in pre-season, possibly in August or September, depending on how that would fit into the Jets' planned tour of China which is still to be finalised, local NPL clubs' commitments and the Jets' FFA Cup campaign.
