Hyundai A-League Goal of the Season: Nabbout’s belter
Riley McGree’s ‘scorpion kick’ goal in Newcastle Jets’ Semi-Final win over Melbourne City has been widely hailed as the Hyundai A-League’s greatest ever goal – and rightly so.
The freakish strike which helped the Jets into the Grand Final has also been tipped as a contender for the ‘Puskas Award’ for the most beautiful goal in the World for 2018.
But who netted the best goal in the A-League this season during the regular campaign?
With some fabulous efforts netted across the competition this season, we whittled it down to the top 10 and asked the fans to vote for the best goal from the 2017/18 season.
And the results are in!
McGree’s Newcastle Jets teammate Andrew Nabbout was the overwhelming pick among supporters with his unbelievable strike against Western Sydney Wanderers in Round 20.
After Jets conceded just a minute earlier, Nabbout came up with a swift response…and how!
Combining with Dimi Petratos on the right, Nabbout fired a rocket with the outside of his right boot into the far corner. Simply stunning!
The strike was even featured on the popular TV program ESPN FC as the best goal in the world for the week.
The fans clearly agreed, with Nabbout’s effort earning more than 65% of the total vote for the goal of the season.
TOP 3 - GOAL OF THE SEASON
Winner – Andrew Nabbout (Jets v WSW, Round 20) – 65% votes
2nd – Milos Ninkovic (Sydney v Jets, Round 14) – 10% votes
3rd - Mark Milligan (Victory v Reds, Round 10) – 7% votes
