After suffering Grand Final heartbreak again last season, you can bet Western Sydney Wanderers players and fans alike cannot wait for the chance to avenge that day against Adelaide United.
The Reds broke their Hyundai A-League title drought at the Wanderers expense with a 3-1 victory in last season’s thrilling decider in front of more than 50,000 fans at Adelaide Oval.
That dramatic decider will ensure clashes between these two in season 2016/17 will have added spice.
The Wanderers will get that first shot at redemption in Round 2 (October 14) in a Friday night blockbuster at Coopers Stadium.
It’s sure to be another rip-roaring atmosphere at Hindmarsh as last season’s best two sides look to gain early bragging rights in the new campaign.
While both squads could have a host of different players, the feeling is sure to be there, especially with a Spanish influence flowing through both squads.
The two sides don’t meet again until Round 22 when the Reds head to Spotless Stadium on Saturday, March 4, while the Round 27 clash in Adelaide could potentially have a bearing on the Premiership race.
Whatever the scenario, there should be plenty of drama and entertainment between two clubs that are developing quite a rivalry.
Last season’s grand final aside, there was nothing splitting the Wanderers and Reds.
Can’t wait for the grand final rematch in 2016/17!
