Newcastle Jets defender Adam Griffiths has become the latest player to sign up with Gold Coast United ahead of their entry into the Hyundai A-League next season.

Griffiths has agreed to a three-year deal with the new team and chief executive Clive Mensink explained why the 29-year-old was targeted as a recruiting priority.

"He's versatile, experienced and a good leader - he will be a top player for us and his skills and talents will be appreciated at our club," Mensink said.

"He will be a good fit in our squad and is indicative of the type of player we are looking to bring in. I'm sure our other players will welcome and respect his ability."

And Mensink intimated that the public can expect further recruitment announcements from Gold Coast in the foreseeable future.

"We are delighted with the way the squad is coming together," he said. "We hope to be in a position to reveal more names very soon."

Griffiths joins Shane Smeltz (Wellington Phoenx), Matthew Osman (Central Coast Mariners), Daniel Piorkowski (Newcastle), Steve Pantelidis (Melbourne Victory) and Scott Higgins (Adelaide United) as current Hyundai A-League players to have signed up with Gold Coast United.

Juventus shot-stopper Jess Vanstrattan has also been snapped up by the fledgling club.
