Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that exciting Spanish forward Adrian Sardinero has signed a two-year deal with the club.
The 30-year-old brings a wealth of experience from, Spain’s La Liga, Cyprus’ First Division and the Greek Super League where he represented Getafe, Hercules, AEL Limassol, Apollon Limassol and OFI.
He also featured regularly in the UEFA Europa League, scoring against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Olympique Lyon.
Having made 32 appearances in all competitions for Greek top-flight side OFI last season, scoring seven goals and contributing three assists, the Leganes-born forward is now relishing the prospect of starting a new chapter of his career here in Australia.
“I’m very happy to join the Perth Glory family,” he said.
“I’m very excited about this new challenge and can’t wait to get to Perth and meet my new team.”
Head Coach Richard Garcia, meanwhile, is confident that Sardinero’s qualities will enable him to become a key figure for Glory in the coming seasons.
“Adrian is a very adaptable forward who can play in several positions, either out wide, up front,or just behind the strikers,” he said.
“He’s very direct, has a good goalscoring record and provides great delivery from wide areas.
“He has been playing consistently at a high level in Europe for the past decade and will add more experience and quality to the squad.”
Glory CEO Tony Pignata believes that Sardinero has the potential to become a firm favourite with the club’s Members and fans.
“This club has always been renowned for its flair players and Adrian certainly has the attributes to continue that proud tradition,” he said.
“He is another high-quality addition to a squad which we are confident will be extremely competitive in the A-League this year.”
Sardinero graduated through the youth ranks at Getafe, eventually making his first-team debut in 2010 at the age of 19 and his first La Liga goal arrived later that season against Valencia.
A subsequent loan spell at Hercules turned into a permanent deal with the Alicante-based club, for whom the attacker would go on to make over 100 appearances.
His first taste of overseas football came in 2014 when he moved to Cyprus to join First Division side AEL Limassol and two years later, he completed a switch to their city rivals, Apollon Limassol.
The Spaniard featured in the Europa League for both Limassol clubs and was a key figure in Apollon’s strong 2017 campaign which included group-stage draws against Olympique Lyon, Everton and Atalanta.
He was duly signed by Crete-based Greek Super League club OFI in July 2020 and was a virtual ever-present for them across four competitions last season.
