Ex-Adelaide United man Jeggo to depart Sturm Graz

Former Adelaide United midfielder James Jeggo has decided to leave Austrian outfit Sturm Graz after rejecting a contract extension.

The 26-year-old has opted to pursue a fresh opportunity following more than 60 league appearances since his arrival in January 2016.

Sporting director Gunter Kreissl revealed the club were eager to re-sign Jeggo but were unable to convince him to stay beyond the end of his current deal.

He leaves with Sturm set to finish an impressive second in the league and on the back of an Austrian Cup triumph over Red Bull Salzburg.

Jeggo's decision is likely to spark the interest of Hyundai A-League clubs, although reports in Austria suggest he is wanted by Austria Wien.

"After an unbelievable two and a half years in Graz I've decided to leave the club," Jeggo wrote on Instagram.

"It's one of the hardest decisions I've had to make and one I did not make lightly. I will never forget the time I had here and the memories we made.

"I want to thank not just the fans but the whole Sturm family."

Jeggo has long been on the fringes of the Caltex Socceroos and was part of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup squad, but is yet to make his senior international debut.
