Brisbane Roar has made the most significant signing in the short history of the Westfield W-League with Europe-s best female footballer Nadine Angerer committing to the club for the 2013/14 season.
Germany goalkeeper Angerer, who won the inaugural UEFA Female European Player of the Year award in Switzerland overnight, will arrive in Australia later this month after a remarkable year of football.
The German captained her country to a victory at the recent European Championships - her fifth triumph in the competition - also winning player of the tournament after saving two of Norway-s spot-kicks in the final-s penalty shootout.
Angerer has played over 120 times for her country, played in two FIFA Women-s World Cups with one Best Goalkeeper award (2007) and three Olympic bronze medals, alongside her European accolades.
Brisbane Roar Women Head Coach Belinda Wilson was excited to have a player of Angerer-s pedigree playing in the ever-growing Australian competition.
“The signing of Nadine is not only huge for our club, but a significant step forward for women-s football in Australia,” Wilson said.
“Nadine has a proven track record of success both domestically and with her country and I look forward to seeing the experience and work ethic she will bring to the Brisbane Roar team.”
The 34-year-old goalkeeper said she was looking forward to the challenges in Australia, both on and off the pitch.
She also emphasised her hunger for success with the two-time Westfield W-League Premiers and Champions.
"After many successful years in the Bundesliga and in Sweden I want to tackle a new challenge in Brisbane," Angerer said.
"I've decided to switch because I even want to get to know a whole new continent, a new league, a new country and I am excited to wear the Brisbane jersey.
“I want to help the team to win the championship.”
Angerer-s most recent club was 1. FFC Frankfurt, where she played alongside Brisbane Roar foundation player Tameka Butt.
