Former Perth Glory defender Dino Djulbic is eying a return to the A-League with Gold Coast United after parting ways German club Rot Weiss Ahlen.

Djulbic terminated his deal with the German second division club just before the new year and will begin training with Gold Coast United this week.

Gold Coast coach Miron Blieberg told reporters that, clearance pending, he intended to use the 26-year-old as cover for the injured Daniel Pirokowski and Adama Traore.

"Every coach has to have a plan B. I'm looking to Djulbic as insurance should either Thwaite or Rees suffer an injury in the final stretch to the finals. He is the experienced back-up player I have been looking for. We will see what happens after that," Bleiberg said.

Djulbic has struggled for first team football in Germany since moving from the Glory 12 months ago.
