Sydney FC midfielder Shannon Cole is keeping the faith with four games remaining in the Hyundai A-League regular season.

As it stands the Sky Blues look unlikely finals participants, currently sitting five points off fourth spot, but Cole maintains the team is confident they can surge late in the season.

"If you don't believe then it won't happen so you've got to aim for the stars and see how close you get," he said.

"We've got players in our team that can produce some individual brilliance and if we keep doing the simple things well and maintain the determination and passion then there's no reason we can't get over the line."

Under-pressure Sydney coach John Kosmina is also talking the finals talk, with the emphasis on positivity.

"Provided the guys keep their heads up, and we've talked about it already, they need to stay positive, then we give ourselves a chance," he said.

"If we go to Adelaide and play like we did last week then I'm quite confident we can get a result."

Cole scored a spectacular opener against Melbourne Victory on Saturday after just 30 seconds and the strike highlights an improving individual season for the attacking midfielder.

"In recent weeks people have been saying I've had a drop in form but I've had a few compliments over the last couple of weeks, so happy about that, but it's a team sport so it's not as enjoyable as it could be," he said.

"I feel a little less inhibited (in the midfield) when it comes to trying things and taking risks in attack, whereas you have to be a bit more responsible when you're playing at the back as the last line of defence."

"Hopefully I can keep playing well and we can get the points this weekend in Adelaide."
