Hyundai A-League clubs and the Westfield Matildas are set to pay their respects to fallen soldiers in what marks 100 years since the Armistice Treaty was signed in Versailles.
Remembrance Round, a joint initiative between Football Federation Australia, the Hyundai A-League clubs and the Australian Defence Force (ADF), honours those past and present who have served our nation with distinction.
This year's commemorations signal the Centenary of the Armistice, the agreement which ended hostilities and prompted the return of our surviving soldiers.
ADF Order of Service
Before each Hyundai A-League fixture, and the Westfield Matildas match against Chile at Panthers Stadium, there will be a Pre-Match ADF Order of Service, where patrons will be asked to stand and pay their respects.
The Service will involve the following:
- The playing of Last Stand
- Flag Raising
- The Ode of Remembrance
- A Guard of Honour by our serviceman and servicewomen, and;
- The Australian National Anthem
FOX SPORTS will be airing the pre-game Service for all five Hyundai A-League fixtures, as well as for the Westfield Matildas' match against Chile.
Match Day fundraising
All ADF Personnel are encouraged to attend Hyundai A-League Round 4 fixtures with all clubs offering special ticket offers for serving ADF members to recognise and thank those in the defence forces.
Fans should also keep an eye out for ADF members and volunteers, who will be conducting their Poppy Appeal drive in and around the grounds.
ADF involvement on the pitch
ADF members will be integrated into the matchday rituals, including the coin toss, walk-arounds and presenting the match ball.
Players will be wearing Poppy Appeal commemorative jerseys, which will later be auctioned off to raise money for the Poppy Appeal.
As well as fundraising, fans can also get involved on Twitter and Facebook, using the hashtags #RemembranceRound and #ALeague.
