City triumph in sensational Melbourne derby

Melbourne City, inspired by a brilliant Thomas Sorensen in goal, have heaped more misery on Victory with a thrilling 2-1 win in the Melbourne Derby on Saturday night.

In the 18 th  edition of the Melbourne Derby in front of 23,572 fans at AAMI Park, it was City who bossed it early with two goals in the first half.

But a Berisha goal right on half-time got the Big V back into the contest as the teams went to the break.

Victory then dominated in the second half and the Big V fans erupted in delight when Archie Thompson came on as a late substitute.

City keeper Thomas Sorensen was brilliant all night, denying Victory on a number of occasions in a dramatic finish to a thrilling night.

Free-scoring City are now on a four-game winning run scoring 16 goals in the process, conversely Victory have now lost four in a row.

30’ Paulo Retre (City)  Mooy plays a ball through to Fornaroli in the box, the Uruguayan’s effort was blocked by Vukovic and Retre was there to guide the ball home.

City 2-1 Victory

45’ Besart Berisha (Victory)  A cross from wide right and despite a hint of offside, Berisha free in the box guided the ball past Sorensen.
