Kearyn Baccus departs Melbourne City

A chance to return to his native South Africa has seen midfielder Kearyn Baccus leave Melbourne City.

Despite only being part way through a three-and-a-half year deal with the Hyundai A-League club, Durban-born Baccus has left City to pursue a new beginning with Kaiser Chiefs.

He is the second player to depart the club this week following the shock exit of Dutch defender Bart Schenkeveld on Tuesday.

Baccus, 27, was a regular for Warren Joyce’s City in 2018/19, featuring 27 times after initially joining the club from Western Sydney Wanderers on an injury replacement contract.

He leaves the Hyundai A-League having made 89 appearances in the competition.

Baccus was approached by South Africa in 2017 to play international football for the country of his birth.

While he rejected the approach at the time, the move back home might give the industrious midfielder food for thought.
