Cernak joins ex-Phoenix duo in South Africa

SuperSport United have added another former Hyundai A-League player to their ranks with Isaka Cernak joining the South African club.

Cernak was released by Central Coast Mariners after the last Hyundai A-League campaign and has been picked up by the Pretoria-based outfit.

He joins fellow former Wellington Phoenix stars Jeremy Brockie, who joined the club in December last year, and Michael Boxall at SuperSport.

"Cernak is a very exciting player," SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews told Sport24.

“I think you guys will be blown away when you see him.

"He's got skill, he's got flair, he's got attitude, pace, and I think he will bring out the best of Lebogang Manyama because it's not going to be easy for Manyama to get into the team.

"Then we have Michael Boxall, the New Zealand international, who I think is going to be one of the best defenders in the League.

"From everything we have seen, he has power, pace, reads the game well and a no-nonsense approach and I think he is going to be a big hit."

Cernak has inked a three-year deal with the Pretoria-based club.

He made 18 appearances for the Mariners last season – including 12 starts – and was a regular fixture under new boss Tony Walmsley towards the end of the season.

But the Australian under-20 and 23 international was surprisingly released at the completion of the season.

The ex Olyroo had previously enjoyed stints with Roar, Fury, Victory and Glory in the Hyundai A-League.
