Adelaide United will miss playmaker Marcelo Carrusca for at least two weeks, after the Argentine suffered a groin injury last weekend.

The playmaker suffered a grade one adductor tear when trying to intercept a shot late in Adelaide's 0-0 draw with Newcastle on Saturday, and although he played out the game, scans later confirmed the injury.

The 29-year-old has been a revelation since making his Hyundai A-League debut earlier this season, involved in 14 matches and scoring three goals.

He will miss Friday night's home game against Perth Glory and the following game against Melbourne Heart, but could return for the trip to Gosford on January 25 to meet A-League leaders Central Coast.

Adelaide coach John Kosmina has a number of options as cover, including Fabian Barbiero, Zenon Caravella and Osama Malik.
