Can Bobo break Fornaroli’s Hyundai A-League goals record?

Brazilian striker Bobo scored two goals in Sydney FC’s Australia Day Big Blue win over Melbourne Victory, setting a club goal-scoring record along the way.

Bobo’s brace took his tally to 18 for the season to surpass ex-Sky Blues hitman Marc Janko’s previous record of 16 goals in a single campaign.

It’s a tremendous achievement from the 33-year-old, who has thrived playing at the top end of a side proving to be one of the most dominant in Hyundai A-League history.

The former Besiktas and Gremio striker appears a certainty to finish with this season’s golden boot.

He currently tops the charts, four goals ahead of Melbourne City’s Ross McCormack, who is back in the UK with his Hyundai A-League future uncertain.

Bobo’s lead to the rest of the chasing pack is 10 goals (Berisha, Mierzejewski, Nabbout, Kaludjerovic all have 8), showing how dominant he’s been this season.

The big question now is whether he can beat the Hyundai A-League record of goals in a regular season, which is 25 by City’s Uruguayan star Bruno Fornaroli.

With nine games to go you wouldn’t bet against Bobo getting the eight goals he needs to take the record on his own, especially in the form the champions are in.

He gets another chance to add to his tally on Friday night when Sydney FC host lowly Wellington Phoenix, a team he scored a hat-trick against when they me earlier this season.

Bobo’s goals record capped another big night for the Sky Blues, who registered their first-ever win over the Victory at AAMI Park in five attempts.

Their two late goals means they have now scored a league-high 11 goals in the final 15 minutes of matches this season, one more than Newcastle Jets.

The Sky Blues also top the league for second half goals with 24, while they have now won nine of their last 12 away games.
