Brillante determined to stay in Caltex Socceroos calculations

An "excited" Josh Brillante is ready to knuckle down in the Hyundai A-League in order to remain in the Caltex Socceroos frame.

Bert van Marwijk named the Sydney FC midfielder in his preliminary 29-man squad for the friendlies against Norway and Colombia later month.

The initial list will be trimmed next week and Brillante, who has won five international caps, is confident he knows what needs to be done.

The former Newcastle Jets and Fiorentina player narrowly missed out on a ticket to Brazil four years ago.

"It goes to show if you keep working, keep believing and wanting to achieve, it can come back around," Brillante told

"It's always in the back of your head but it's not something you're thinking about week-to-week.

"It's more about performances at club level and playing well. Off the back of that these things follow.

"We expect to get some good results [at Sydney FC] like we've been doing.

"At the end of the day it's up to the coach, it's his decision, so I'll just do what I do."

Though eager to stay grounded, Brillante admits he harbours ambitions of making the final 23 for the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

"It's an exciting time [with] the World Cup not far away," he said.

"It's a big occasion and obviously it would be great to be involved with that as well."
