The 22-year-old played 20 games for Kaiserslautern in 2017/18, scoring three goals and providing eight assists before a knee injury ended his season.

Borrello was in talks with Freiburg before he tore the ACL in his right knee in April, with the club still happy to sign the speedy winger as he continues his rehabilitation.

"Freiburg has been with me even after my injury and I want to pay back that confidence, the club is known for making young players even better,” Borrello said on the club’s official website.

“I’ve work hard to be part of the team, I'm extremely motivated and grateful to Freiburg to give me this opportunity."

Borrello started his career in the Hyundai A-League with Brisbane Roar, making 88 appearances for the club and scoring 20 goals.

He continued his eye-catching displays in his maiden season in Europe, prompting Freiburg to offer him a deal to play in Germany’s best league.

"Brandon is a really talented and variable offensive player. He developed after his move from Australia to Germany within a very short time very well,” Freiburg’s sports director Klemens Hartenbach said.

“We were already in agreement with the player before his injury, so that it was natural for us to stand by our word will build up Brandon cautiously and look forward to the time he can stand on the field for the sports club."

Borrello will wear the no.21 jersey in Freiburg.
