German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen has given Mark Birighitti a positive review but says it-s too soon to be speculating about a deal for the A-League keeper.
Birighitti arrived at the Bay Arena this week and is in the middle of a trial period with the German outfit from his A-League club Newcastle Jets.
And the club offered a cautiously optimistic assessment of the Perth born 22-year-old's progress. “He has done well and we will see how things might develop but this is right now too early to address to the general public,” a club spokesperson told www.footballaustralia.com.au.
“It is true that Mark has had a try-out here at Leverkusen some days ago. That´s all which we can say right now.”
The former Adelaide United shot-stopper has arrived at a difficult time for the German club. Head coach Sami Hyypia-s men are in the middle of an alarming form slump which has seen them struggle badly since the turn of the year.
So much so that the club has been forced into publicly backing Hyypia, the former Liverpool and Finland star.
Bayer, which is also the home of Socceroo Robbie Kruse, now sits fourth and is in danger of missing the automatic UEFA Champions League spot after a scorching first half of the campaign in Germany.
