Baro proud of Mariners' performance in Sydney FC draw

Central Coast Mariners captain Alan Baro admitted it could have been more but was pleased with his side's entertaining 1-1 draw with league-leaders Sydney FC on Saturday night.

Blake Powell fired the Mariners ahead from the penalty spot inside 10 minutes and they should have doubled their lead just before half-time with Lachlan Wales firing over from point-blank range.

Kwabena also spurned a golden opportunity just after the break and it proved costly with Bobo burying a clinical header on the hour mark to earn Sydney a share of the points.

“I’m happy for the job we did in the game. I think all the team put in a really good performance tonight," Baro told Fox Sports.

“We get one point. I think we can get the three. But it’s a good result for us on a difficult pitch.”

Baro conceded Central Coast could have taken all three points against the Sky Blues but praised the collective effort of his side against the competition favourites.

“That’s true that we have that chance at the end of the first half. We didn’t take it,” Baro said.

“But we still kept going. We didn’t give up in any moment and I’m very happy with the work that we did.”

The Mariners have recorded back-to-back draws over the past fortnight and remain three points adrift of sixth-placed Wanderers.

Paul Okon’s side are at home to Brisbane Roar next Saturday night.
